About Joe Adams

Joe Adams wrote the book on public records in Florida. But he's also helped people throughout the Sunshine state get "the book" about their potential special someone.

His 10 years of research produced the Florida Public Records Handbook, the ultimate guide to the state's most useful public records. Recognized as the only handbook of its kind in any state, the 457-page manual has earned national recognition (news) from the Society of Professional Journalists and Investigative Reporters and Editors. Instructors at six universities have used the handbook, published by the First Amendment Foundation in Tallahassee, to teach Florida's next generation of reporters and researchers about public records and freedom of information issues. The handbook, now in its second printing, has become a staple for journalists, lawyers, private investigators and government officials throughout Florida.

More than 1,000 journalists have attended his workshops on how to investigate people, governments and issues for news stories. His public records coaching for journalists includes seminars for the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, the Florida Press Club, the Miami Herald, the Society of Professional Journalists, Orlando Sentinel, Sarasota Herald-Tribune, WBBH-Channel 2 in Fort Myers, the Palm Beach Post, The Florida Times-Union, the Florida Asian American Journalists Association, the Naples Daily News, Panama City News-Herald, and Media General's Tampa Bay-area properties, including The Tampa Tribune, WFLA-TV and Sunbelt Newspapers.

His 20 years in the news business includes award-winning work as a reporter, editor, editorial writer and newsroom trainer. He taught information gathering as an adjunct professor at the University of North Florida for two years, and he is the founder and host of the www.iDigAnswers.com Web site, which focuses on Florida open government news and public records use.

Adams is happily married with a family. But he has a lot of single friends, and he enjoys helping people make better dating choices and avoid being taken in by someone who might put them or their families at risk.
